Native Plants

Native polyculture mixture roseau

Mixtures of perennial plants that are native to the tallgrass prairie (i.e. polycultures) can be grown for a range of high-value products including biomass for renewable energy, chemical compounds that serve as natural preservatives, and as a source of seed for native restorations. Our research focuses on how to grow native polycultures so that these novel agricultural systems can be both profitable and environmentally sustainable.
