Cassie Kaplan

MS Student, Applied Plant Sciences Graduate Program

Cassie (she/her) is a MS student co-advised by Dr. Tom Michaels in the Dept. of Horticulture. While attending the University of Minnesota for her bachelor's degree in plant science, Cassie worked in the industrial hemp breeding program in the horticultural sciences department. Work in this breeding program peaked her interest in industrial hemp as an reemerging crop in the United States and led to her master's work that focuses on agroecology and water quality in industrial hemp cropping systems. Cassie's M.S. research focuses on quantifying nitrate leaching under industrial hemp and assessing its potential for reducing nitrate leaching when inserted into a conventional corn cropping system.
