Jake Kundert

PhD Candidate, Land and Atmospheric Science Graduate Program

Jake (he/him) is a Ph.D. Candidate co-advised by Dr. Jessica Gutknecht in Department of Soil, Water, and Climate focusing on carbon cycling in continuous living cover cropping systems. He uses a variety of methods to measure carbon dioxide exchange, crop productivity, and changes in soil health parameters to understand the impact of Forever Green Iniiative crops on agroecosystem functioning. He has a particular interest in understanding the spatial relationships between soil and crop properties across his two 30-acre experimental farm fields. He is driven to connect agriculture research with management decisions that improve the resilience of agricultural lands. He previously led local food system iniatitives, managed organic vegetable farms, and operated a pasture-raised livestock business.
